In cooperation with OneOne communication studio milz created a bespoke brand experience for ZUMTOBEL. For the event series RE:WORK featuring talks, symposiums and an interactive exhibition of 64 international projects within the field of open source architecture, studio milz was commissioned to design a communication strategy and build a bespoke machine, the coverbot. Invited architects and design professionals were able to create their very own catalogue by choosing sheets describing projects from an exhibition. Starting out with the old and well known idea of punch cards, milz developed a system to scan a whole stack of sheets in order to analyse which projects exactly were chosen. Therefore every single piece of paper was prepared with a set of holes coding the project’s number. After scanning a stack of papers the machine draws a unique cover defined by the selection sheets. The produced covers worked as an generative key visual for the event series, as well as an information graphic showing the individual selection with one colour and the top 20 selected projects of a particular evening in another. Through this, participants where animated to compare their own selection with the average. The process of browsing through the exhibited projects, putting together a catalogue and completing it with a unique cover led to a rich interaction between the participants and created a communicative event series.
